Suryanar Kovil

Suryanar Kovil (also called Suryanar Temple) is a Hindu temple dedicated to the deity Hindu Sun-God, located in Suryanar Kovil, a village near the South Indian town of Kumbakonam Thanjavur District in Tamil Nadu, India.[1] The presiding deity is Suriyanar, the Sun and his consorts Ushadevi and Pratyusha Devi. The temple also has separate shrines for the other eight planetary deities. The temple is considered one of the nine Navagraha temples in Tamil Nadu.[2] The temple is one of the few historic temples dedicated to Sun god and is also the only temple in Tamil Nadu which has shrines for all the planetary deities.

Chandra Navagrahastalam

Lord Vishnu distributed the Amurtham among devas. One of the asuras disguised as deva tasted the Amurtham distributed by the Lord. Suryan and chandran complained this to the Lord when came about this news. Angered and worried, the Lord used the weapon called chakrayudham(discus) to cut the asura’s body into two. The head region joined with body of snake and become Raghu Bhagavan. The body portion joined with snake’s head become Kethu bhagavan. Ragu and Kethu bhagavan doesn’t forgive the suryan and chandran. Chandran is started consuming by Ragu. This leads chanran to rely on the Lord Shiva for blessings. Lord Shiva has blessed the chandran to get back the power of growing back after 15 days. So, we can see the waxing and waning of the Chandra (Moon) in the sky. The Lord also blessed the Moon and adorning him in his head. Anyone prays the Moon has belief of regain the power and enjoyment in life.

Angaarakan Navagrahastalam

It is believed that consumption of the medicinal ball brings total relief for any deadly disease. The punugu oil is given to those suffers from types of skin problems. A medicine prepared with ash, anthill sand and oil is a beneficial medicine for leprosy. Lord Murugan got HIS Vel in this Holy place only. It is said that Lord Rama has worshipped the Vaitheeswara here. The place of Mars (sevvai) in the horoscope determines the marriage scenario and other areas. Special pujas are performed here for those facing adverse effects in the life. Normally, people frequently visit the temple to get out of the debt traps, joint paints and to success in land deals. The Lord Muruga is always worships His Divine Father Shiva and Mother Parvathi here. Mother Thiyaga Nayagi ensures the welfare of the children. So, children need to visits the temple. Angaraka blesses the devotees by sitting on His Goat(vahanam).

Budha Navagrahastalam

Budha is the name for the planet Mercury. He is the son of Chandra (Moon). He is also the god of merchandise. He is represented as being mild and having a greenish complexion. He is represented holding a shield, riding a winged lion. In other illustrations, he holds a sceptre, lotus and rides a carpet or a chariot drawn by lions. Budha presides over Wednesday. He is married to Ila, the daughter of Vaivasvata Manu. Swetharanyeswarar Temple in the town of Thiruvengadu near Sirkazhi is the shrine dedicated to the planet Mercury. The main deity is Swetharanyeswarar, meaning the lord of white forest and the goddess is Brahma Vidya ambal. There is a separate Sannidhi for Bhudhan (mercury). This temple is especially known for its unique incarnation of Lord Shiva called "Agora Murthi". He is one of the main gods being prayed in this village. This temple has 3 pools and 3 Gods. It is believed that those who take bath in all pools, those will be freed from their problems like diseases, delay in marriage, etc

Guru Navagrahastalam

Apatsahayesvarar Temple, Alangudi or Guru Sthalam or Tiru Irum Poolai[1] is a Hindu temple dedicated to Shiva located in the village of Alangudi in the Valangaiman taluk[2] of Tiruvarur district, Tamil Nadu, India. Shiva is worshipped as Apathsahyesvarar, and is represented by the lingam. His consort Parvati is depicted as Elavarkuzhali. The presiding deity is revered in the 7th century Tamil Saiva canonical work, the Tevaram, written by Tamil saint poets known as the Nayanmars and classified as Paadal Petra Sthalam. The temple complex covers two acres and it houses a five tier gateway tower known as gopurams, one facing the Apathsaheswarar shrine and other towards North. The temple has a number of shrines, with those of Apathsaheswarar and his consort Elavarkuzhali being the most prominent.

Sukra Navagrahastalam

The Agniswarar Temple (கஞ்சனூர் அக்கினீஸ்வரர் கோயில்)[1] is a Hindu temple in the village of Kanjanur, 18 kilometres north-east of Kumbakonam. The presiding deity is Sukra (Venus). However, the main idol in the temple is that of "Agniswarar" or Shiva. In concordance with the Saivite belief that Shiva is all-pervading, Sukra is believed to be located within the stomach of the idol of Shiva.

Shani Navagrahastalam

Tirunallar Saniswaran Temple or Dharbaranyeswarar Temple is a Hindu temple dedicated to the deity Shiva, located in a village, Thirunallar of karaikal district of Union territory of Puducherry 24 km from Nagapattinam town of Tamil Nadu. The temple complex covers around two acre and entered through a five tiered gopuram, the main gateway. The temple has a number of shrines, with those of Dharbaranyeswarar, his consort Praneswari Amman, Saniswararan and Somaskandar being the most prominent. All the shrines of the temple are enclosed in large concentric rectangular granite walls. The present masonry structure was built during the Chola dynasty in the 9th century, while later expansions are attributed to Vijayanagar rulers. The temple is maintained and administered by the Department of Hindu Religious Institutions by the Government of Puducherry. The temple has six daily rituals at various times from 6:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m., and four yearly festivals on its calendar. Mahasivarathri festival celebrated during the month of the Chittirai (March - April) is the most prominent festival of the temple for the presiding deity, while Sanipeyarchi festival that occurs every 2.5 years is the most prominent for Shani.

Raahu Navagrahastalam

Tirunageswaram Naganathar Temple also known as Rahu Stalam is a Hindu temple dedicated to the deity Shiva, located in Tirunageswaram, a village in the outskirts of Kumbakonam, a town in Tamil Nadu, India. It is significant to the Hindu sect of Saivism as one of the temples associated with the nine planet elements, the Navagraha Stalas, and specifically Rahu. Shiva is worshiped as Naganathar, and is represented by the lingam. His consort Parvati is depicted as Piraisoodi Amman. The presiding deity is revered in the 7th century Tamil Saiva canonical work, the Tevaram, written by Tamil saint poets known as the nayanars and classified as Paadal Petra Sthalam.

Ketu Navagrahastalam

According to the mythology, an asura’s head was cut off by God Vishnu. This result the asura’s head and body joined with a snake to form 'Ketu' and ‘Ragu’. Ketu represents the body without a head, and Ragu, represents the head without a body. According to the accounts in Hindu mythology, Ketu belongs to Jaimini Gotra and Rahu belongs to Paiteenasa gotra. It is to be understood that both ketu and Ragu are completely different entities with distinct characteristics. Ketu is generally referred to as a "shadow" planet. It is believed that Ketu to have a marvellous impact on human lives. Ketu is often depicted with a gem on his head signifying a mystery light. The Temple dedicated to the Kethu is Kethu Sthalam is in the village of Keezhaperumpallam. This Sthalam is just 2 kilometres away from Poompuhar and comes within the range of Nagapattinam district. The presiding deity is Ketu. But still, the main idol is "Naganatha Swamy" or Shiva. Other name for this sthalam is Naganatha Swamy Temple.
